Web Development
A 1.5-year, 90 ECTS bachelor programme, building on the AP degree in Multimedia Design and Communication. Having this degree further enhances your skills in areas such as web and interface design, usability, web communication and software development.
The degree focuses strongly on combining theory with practice, including a 3-month internship in the last semester, where you get hands-on experience with working in a company.
On the Web Development bachelor degree programme, you gain a thorough understanding of multimedia production, while learning how to organize and manage web projects to an advanced level. You heighten your skills within areas such as programming, web communication, digital aesthetics, and interface design.
Before starting the programme, you choose whether you’d like to specialize in Backend development, or in Interface and Design.

What you learn
In the mandatory sections of the programme you learn to develop websites, advanced web applications, and apps for mobile devices. You gain the skills to be able to work across platforms, media and applications, and to operate as a specialist around the design and construction of web applications, web architecture and internet communication.
On the Web Development bachelor degree programme at IBA Kolding, we work with various teaching methods, such as class-based teaching, group work, lectures, presentations from relevant parties, theme days, project weeks, etc. Teaching is therefore very varied, and you’ll find that no two weeks are the same.
As a student of web development, you are in close contact with Danish companies, and can experience first-hand the daily tasks and challenges. Activities during the studies include guest lecturers, presentations and projects in which companies participate, and visits to various companies.
Specialization streams

Are you passionate about communicating and designing information for the internet? Or maybe you wish to work broadly with internet technologies, without having to step fully into the engine room? Then this specialism could be for you.
The programme is centred around the area of tension between internet technology and communication and design. You will work with design processes and project management, in collaboration with CMS and E-commerce development platforms. You will be introduced to the Internet of Things, and to the challenges presented by a world full of new, web-connected devices - as seen in a design-based perspective.
This specialization might be for you if you’re keen on gaining an immediate business skill to be put to use after the completion of the programme. It also provides a good basis for further education or training, for example through a Masters degree or equivalent in web communication.
Are you well acquainted with your inner nerd? Do you love working with the latest web technologies, diving deep into technically complex solutions? And do you furthermore wish to be at the cutting edge of technology, as we watch the Internet of Things come of age around us? Then this specialism could be for you.
As a part of this stream, you get right to the heart of the most fundamental principles of web development - through the very latest technologies. We delve deep into the various technologies which make app development possible at a high, professional level. You also gain insight into the trends and currents within web-based development.
You’ll learn how to put data from other sources to use, and how to secure your own installations against the inevitable threats that arise whenever business is digitalized and moved online.
This stream is a good starting-point if you wish to get a direct and contemporary business skill to make use of after finishing the programme. You also gain the opportunity to continue studying at Masters level or equivalent, in Web Architecture or a similar field.
Career opportunities
As a web developer, you have a much larger range of career options than as a multimedia designer, and you typically find a job in the IT business, e.g. in software development departments of large companies, as a software developer, webmaster or web consultant.
Once you have some experience, you can become a software architect, or create your own business and forge a career as a consultant.

Study environment and teaching method
Teaching takes place in classes comprising between 25 and 35 students, which gives you an excellent opportunity to enjoy a good social life with your fellow students. You will experience teaching approaches that emphasise theory as well as practice.
The instruction is based on projects, many of which take place in cooperation with local and national businesses, and the tasks are normally carried out in groups. You must be prepared to make an independent effort and to cooperate with your fellow students.
Some of the project tasks, and the final project in particular, are independent tasks, carried out on the basis of the theory that you have learned. The projects should be based on specific cases from businesses, insofar as this is possible. You will be given good advice and constructive criticism along the way.
Internship
On the Top-up Bachelor degree Web Development, there are 12 mandatory weeks of internship during semester 3. Since you will also have carried out a previous internship during the Multimedia Design and Communication programme, you will therefore experience two separate periods of internship during the three-and-a-half years it takes to complete both study programmes.
As well as working with your mentor and your supervisor about your internship and bachelor project, you will also see a careers advisor and a company consultant from IBA Business. They will provide dialogue and guidance around exactly what a targeted application and an effective CV should contain, in order to secure an internship best suited to your career plans – hopefully one that will build upon your earlier internship experience from the Multimedia Design and Communication programme.
You also have the option of an individual session, in which a careers advisor from IBA Business will go through the CV and the application with you, and together you’ll plan for the next stage of the process.
IBA Business has a strong network of previous internship companies, both in Denmark and abroad, and students from IBA are very much in demand. Many students from the programme seek out their own internships, while others work alongside IBA Business, who regularly receive job announcements for both internships and permanent positions. IBA Business also holds various different activities for IBA alumni (i.e. former IBA students).
Before each internship you will also be invited to a careers day at IBA, to which a range of companies is invited, all of them looking for an intern just like you.
Both careers advice and internships are to help get you fully prepared for the world of business.
International opportunities
When studying Web Development, you have various options for gaining additional international experience. You can study abroad for a semester. We have many partner schools to choose from, or you can find your own.
Furthermore, there is a wide range of short-term international opportunities, providing the possibility for students to strengthen their ability to work within a multicultural environment, broaden their international network, and develop their study-related skills, such as study visits, international marketing and business weeks.

Further study
On completion of the bachelor degree in web development, you can use your credits to do a full-time master’s degree in Denmark or in other countries. For example, you can progress to study medialogy or become a civil engineer.
Admission requirements
Having successfully completed an AP degree in Multimedia Design and Communication or an AP degree in Computer Science, you are normally accepted to Web Development automatically.
If you have a degree from another country, or an AP degree in a different subject area, you will be evaluated individually. In some cases, taking additional courses will be necessary.
Application fee
As from the summer intake 2017, all non-EU citizens without a Danish permanent residence permit must pay an application fee of 750 DKK. IBA must receive the application fee before the application deadline, otherwise your application will not be evaluated. The application fee will not be deducted in any form, it is not a guarantee for admission and it is not refundable if the student is not admitted.

Summer intake
This programme will be offered in Danish only in the summer 2018 intake.
When applying for the autumn intake, you need to fill in an application form (PDF) and send it with all necessary documents plus your motivation letter to apply@iba.dk.
All attachments to your application must be submitted together with the application form no later than the application deadline.
Non-EU students must apply no later than March 15, 2016.
EU/EEA students must apply no later than July 1, 2016.
Danish students must apply no later than July 5, 2016.
Study start: End of August 2017.

Financial issues
Tuition fee
Danish, Nordic, EU and EEA students: Free of charge.
Other students: DKK 75,000 per year (DKK 37,500 per semester).
Students who are exchanged between IBA and other institutions where bilateral exchange agreements exist are exempt from paying study fees to IBA.
Scholarships
